Arsenal claim vital win over Temperley, Pochettino gives Defensa y Justicia victory & Vélez edge Tigre with late penalty (VIDEO)

No doubt boosted by their huge win in the Copa Sudamericana last week, Arsenal climbed out of the relegation zone with a 2-0 victory over rivals Temperley on Monday evening.

Second half goals from Federico Milo and Juan Brunetta either side of Gonzalo Escobar being sent off for the visitors gave Humberto Grondona’s side a well deserved three points. Temperley are looking increasingly in trouble after defeat but there is a renewed belief about Arsenal that may just keep them in the top flight.

Quilmes dropped below Arsenal and into the drop zone after a 2-0 defeat to Defensa y Justicia in Florencio Varela.

El Halcón had been much the better side but Los Cerveceros looked as though they might leave with a point before second half substitute Tomás Pochettino scored a late brace. A sweeping first time finish five minutes from time broke the deadlock before the youngster tapped in a second in stoppage time.

Finally in Liniers, Vélez earned a 2-1 win against Tigre but needed a controversial 90th minute penalty to bounce back from consecutive defeats and extend the visitors’ dreadful run.

Mariano Pavone had already scored once from the spot in the first half but had seen it cancelled out by Alexis Castro’s exquisite chip moments before the break. However, with the game heading for a draw referee Pedro Argañaraz spotted an infringement at a corner unnoticed by everyone else and gifted Pavone the winner.

Arsenal  2 – 0  Temperley

Defensa y Justicia  2 – 0  Quilmes

Vélez Sarsfield  2 – 1  Tigre
