Sarmiento’s spell in the top flight looks almost certain to come to an end after Talleres returned to form and picked up a 4-1 victory in Junín.

Victorio Ramis pounced on a spilled Emanuel Reynoso shot to put the visitors ahead midway through the first half and minutes later Ezequiel Rescaldani doubled the advantage. Jonathan Menéndez scrambled in a third on the hour mark and just as it was in the first half, one goal was quickly followed by another. Talleres cut through Sarmiento’s defence and Ramis was on hand to tap in a simple fourth.

Troubled striker Brian Sarmiento headed a consolation goal on his debut but it couldn’t prevent Sarmiento slumping to defeat and in need of a miracle to avoid the drop.

A little earlier in La Fortaleza, Lanús eventually saw off Atlético de Rafaela after introducing Lautaro Acosta and José Sand.

The visitors had been on a decent run, increasing their hopes of survival, and may well look back on Saturday’s defeat as three points dropped after Leandro Díaz saw his second half penalty saved by Esteban Andrada.

Having missed that opportunity, Lanús went up a couple of gears and with fifteen minutes remaining Román Martínez smashed the hosts ahead. Acosta’s pace had created the opener and the forward laid on the second for José Sand, threading the ball through for Sand to round Lucas Hoyos and wrap up the points.

In Córdoba, Patronato were unable to end their ten-match winless streak but did earn a point from their visit to Belgrano. A thumping Matías Quiroga headed put the visitors ahead but Mariano Barbiero equalised to give El Pirata the point that their performance at least deserved.

Belgrano  1 – 1  Patronato

Lanús  2 – 0  Atlético de Rafaela

Sarmiento  1 – 4  Talleres
