There are bound to be more twists in the title race but River Plate missed the chance to really apply the pressure on Boca Juniors after being held to a goalless draw by Rosario Central in the Monumental.

River’s imperious form had made them title favourites after the superclásico victory but Paolo Montero’s Central were always likely to prove difficult opponents and the visitors were perhaps the better side in the opening 45 minutes as River failed to really get going. However, Marcelo Gallardo’s side improved after the break and came close to snatching the points when Sebastián Driussi hit the post from distance.

Unable to find a winner River had to settle for a point and with it handed the initiative back to Boca in the title race after their draw on Saturday.

Atlético de Rafaela’s spell in the top flight looks all but over after a damaging home defeat to Belgrano. Fernando Luna’s 25-yard effort had put La Crema ahead midway through the first half but two goals in as many minutes before the break from Federico Lértora and Mariano Barbieri turned the game. El Pirata have been woeful this season but held on for all three points and leave Atlético in need of a miracle.

Finally in Paraná, Godoy Cruz made light of Patronato en route to a 3-0 win. Juan Garro’s accurate finish and Gastón Giménez’s stunning volley put El Tomba into a comfortable half time lead and Marcelo Benítez wrapped it up in stoppage time for a third straight win.

River Plate  0 – 0  Rosario Central

Atlético de Rafaela  1 – 2  Belgrano

Patronato  0 – 3  Godoy Cruz
