Patronato’s third win in four matches comes not only as something of a surprise but has eased relegation fears after the alarming slump last season. Friday evening’s 2-1 victory over Atlético Tucumán lifts El Patrón into third, at least overnight, but they can perhaps be grateful that the visitors had been in Copa Argentina action in midweek.
Adrián Balboa’s fine solo goal opened the scoring, outmuscling Yonathan Cabral to fire past Cristian Lucchetti into the top corner. After Luis Rodríguez was forced off injured for Atlético and Sebastian Ribas drilled in a second, the result looked certain.
However, the visitors responded well and when Gonzalo Freitas headed a goal back it set up a tense finish. Patronato held on for the points and already move well clear off the drop zone.
A little earlier in Córdoba and Tigre managed to claim only a second point of the season against Belgrano as their winless start goes on.
An improved Belgrano had the better of the match but were unable to find a decisive goal while Caruso Lombardi will be pleased by his side’s defensive display.
Belgrano 0 – 0 Tigre
Patronato 2 – 1 Atlético Tucumán
