A new Superliga season is underway and if you missed any of the highlights over the weekend, here is a quick recap of all the fixtures from Round One and all the goals…

Boca Juniors are aiming to win three consecutive league titles for the first time in their history and made a winning start bright and early on Sunday morning with victory over Talleres in La Bombonera.

It may not have been the most impressive display but just as Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s side did on so many occasions last season, they earned all three points thanks to Cristian Pavón’s early goal.

Rivals River Plate were held to a goalless draw away to Huracán, Racing Club allowed a two-goal lead to slip against Atlético Tucumán, San Lorenzo fought back from two-down against relegation threatened Tigre and Independiente’s opener against San Martín de Tucumán was postponed due to El Rojo’s involvement in the Suruga Bank Trophy, so Boca have an early advantage of their fellow grandes.

With Boca’s likeliest title challengers dropping points, it’s Vélez, Gimnasia, Godoy Cruz, Rosario Central and Unión who share the lead at the top.

Gabriel Heinze’s young Vélez side impressively dispatched of Newell’s in Liniers thanks in part to the display of Matías Vargas, who is rumoured to be included in the next Argentina squad.

Gimnasia edged past Argentinos Juniors, Ten-man Godoy Cruz required a stoppage time penalty to beat Estudiantes, Edgardo Bauza made a winning start back at Central with a 1-0 win over Banfield and Unión’s formidable home record continued with victory against Aldosivi.

And amid three goalless draws there were also three occasions that a team squandered a two-goal lead. Racing and Tigre already mentioned but Lanús too, allowed Nicolás Fernández to strike a late brace and earn Defensa y Justicia a draw.
