Three games, three wins and still not a single goal conceded. It’s fair to say that Edgardo Bauza has had a decent impact back at Rosario Central as El Canalla sit top of the Superliga after victory over San Martín de Tucumán.
That admirable defensive record came under threat early when Alejandro Altuna headed against the crossbar but when Washington Camacho rifled in from long range, Central took control.
Fernando Zampedri headed against the post and Alfonso Parot should have beaten goalkeeper Ignacio Arce from close range but ten minutes from time the points were wrapped up.
Parot’s cut-back found Zampedri and the centre forward’s first time finish found the bottom corner.
While there is no questioning just how much of an improvement Central have made that is likely to be put to the test next Sunday as El Canalla travel to Avellaneda to face second placed Racing.
Rosario Central 2 – 0 San Martín de Tucumán
Defeat to Estudiantes last Monday saw Boca’s reign at the top of the league ended but there was little response from Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s side on Sunday evening as the champions were instead a little fortunate to earn a point from a trip to Huracán.
Opting to rest players ahead of a critical week in the Copa Libertadores, Boca handed starts to youngsters Agustín Almendra and Leonardo Balerdi while welcoming back captain Fernando Gago from his latest injury layoff but never really looked like scoring in Parque Patricios.
Huracán certainly came closest when Federico Mancinelli flashed a header inches wide and even when Boca threw on former Globo favourite Ramón Ábila, the visitors still didn’t pose much of a threat.
Boca take a two-goal lead to Asunción on Thursday evening against Libertad and the Copa Libertadores remains the priority but such is the strength of Barros Schlotto’s squad they remained Superliga favourites for a reason and can’t afford to fall too many points behind.
