Cubero bids farewell as Vélez beat Colón, Talleres thrash Godoy Cruz, Gaich hands San Lorenzo victory, Aldosivi hold Independiente & Central Córdoba earn point (VIDEO)

At almost 41 years of age and after 633 appearances, Fabián Cubero stepped out at the Estadio José Amalfitani for the last time. The veteran defender’s cameo appearance capped off a much needed victory for Vélez over Colón.

A wonderful strike from the edge of the box by Thiago Almada put Vélez in front and it was swiftly followed by a well taken Leandro Fernández goal to put the home side deservedly in control.

Cristian Bernardi pulled one back for Colón before the break but Nicolás Domínguez restored the lead before the hour mark, the 21-year-old cooly slotting in his fifth goal of the season.

Cubero replaced Domínguez late on to bid farewell to supporters and with the win Vélez bounced back from their poor patch of form to go fifth.

Talleres were the big winners on Sunday with a 5-0 demolition of Godoy Cruz, who sit bottom of the table and have now considered nine more goals than the next worst defence.

El Tomba should have had a penalty when the game was still goalless only for the linesman to help overturn the decision and award a free-kick and from that point it went rapidly downhill.

Nahuel Bustos slotted Talleres in front to join Rafael Santos Borré and Silvio Romero as the Superliga’s leading scorers and two minutes later Jonathan Menéndez raced in behind to smash a second past Juan Bolado.

A Franco Fragapane brace after the break increased the visitors’ advantage and Juan Méndez drilled in a fifth four minutes from time.

Two close range, first half finishes from Argentina under-23 goal-machine Adolfo Gaich handed San Lorenzo a much needed win over Patronato.

It wasn’t perhaps the performance to fill supporters at the Nuevo Gasómetro with confidence and owed as much to iconic goalkeeper Sebastián Torrico than it did Gaich’s exploits but three points was what mattered. Patronato remain seven points from safety.

Aldosivi sit one place below them in the bottom three despite holding Independiente to a goalless draw. El Rojo have struggled for goals all season and even after El Tiburón saw Gastón Gil Romero sent off during the second half, Independiente were unable to find a way through.

And Central Córdoba manage to keep their head just above the water after claiming a point against Rosario Central in Santiago del Estero.

A Diego Rodríguez blooper as the goalkeeper spilled a Ciro Rius volley through his legs looked to have gifted Rosario Central victory but a thunderous strike from Hugo Vera Oviedo equalised eight minutes from time to salvage a point.

Aldosivi  0 – 0  Independiente

Central Córdoba  1 – 1  Rosario Central
