Two results that could have a significant impact on this season’s relegation saw Aldosivi chalk up an invaluable three points to keep the Tiburón out of the relegation zone and Patronato remain deep in trouble after taking a point from Argentinos Juniors.
Banfield hadn’t lost in nine before last weekend’s defeat to River Plate but failed to get going at the Estadio Florencio Sola on Friday evening. Three first half penalty shouts aside when Aldosivi’s marking at set-pieces got a little too physical, Banfield struggled to create any clear chances of note and so the game was decided after 26 minutes.
Nazareno Solis’ inswinging cross from the right found a completely unmarked Facundo Bertoglio and the slightest of headed touches flicked the ball beyond Mauricio Arboleda.
A fourth win in six for Aldosivi has lifted Guillermo Hoyos’ side out of the relegation zone and their run of form is a concern for the three sides currently sitting below in the promedio table.
One of those, Patronato were unable to follow up last week’s win over Unión and a point away to Argentinos Juniors leaves the Paraná side some way from safety.
Cristian Tarragona clipping in his eighth goal of the season gave Patronato a 19th minute lead but it was almost immediately cancelled out by Gabriel Hauche thrashing the ball in from close range.
With no shortage of clear chances at both ends neither side could find a second and despite Argentinos seeing Carlos Quintana sent off late on it ended all square.
Argentinos Juniors remain third with the point but could slip to fifth by the end of the round while Patronato’s record of one win in sixteen has them needing a drastic turnaround to avoid sliding out of the top flight.
