Cvitanich snatches leaders Racing late point in Santa Fe, Boca ease past San Lorenzo, Talleres beat Newell’s & Godoy Cruz fail to find way past Central (VIDEO)

Whether it proves to be a point gained or two points dropped will only be known in a few more weeks but Darío Cvitanich earned Racing Club a 1-1 draw two minutes from time against Colón to open a four-point lead at the top of the table.

A revitalised Colón, under the interim management of Marcelo Goux, gave the league leaders a tough evening and having already seen one penalty appeal waved away, a clumsy challenge by Eugenio Mena saw Wilson Morelo give the home side the lead from the spot.

Naturally Racing turned the screw as the game went on and just as it looked as though Eduardo Coudet’s side would be slumping to a damaging defeat, Darío Cvitanich pounced. Defender Alejandro Donatti pushed forward to try and salvage something and it was his header that came back off the crossbar that led to Cvitanich finding the net from yards out.

The draw puts Racing four points clear at the top but with Defensa y Justicia hosting Banfield on Monday, the lead could be cut to just a single point.

Colón  1 – 1  Racing Club

Boca Juniors took a firmer grip on third place with a comfortable win over San Lorenzo in La Bombonera as the pressure continues to mount on winless manager Jorge Almirón.

It took Boca only four minutes to lead on Saturday evening when Mauro Zárate bent the ball past Fernando Monetti from 25 yards and from that point the result never really looked in doubt. Ramón Ábila should have doubled the lead when through on goal and although Nicolás Reniero headed against the crossbar for the visitors, San Lorenzo were poor once again.

Sebastián Villa curled a shot against the upright after the break and soon after Nahitan Nández poked Boca two in front.

San Lorenzo’s evening got even worse when Monetti was shown a red card for a sly boot to Villa and the pacy Colombian wrapped up the win late on.

Still without a single win as manager and San Lorenzo now without a win in 15 games, Almirón may already heading for the exit door leaving the club’s decision to back the coach so heavily in the transfer window as even more bewildering.

Boca Juniors  3 – 0  San Lorenzo

Earlier in Rosario, Talleres picked up a valuable 2-1 win over Newell’s Old Boys to climb to sixth in the table.

The often frustrating Luis Leal drilled Newell’s into an early lead but La Lepra couldn’t hold out until half time as Sebastián Palacios slid in a 42nd minute equaliser.

A studs up challenge by Jerónimo Cacciabue saw Newell’s reduced to ten men just after the hour mark but the numerical disadvantage didn’t last long, Enzo Díaz almost immediately picking up a second yellow card. Eight minutes from time and ten against ten, Mauro Ortíz fired the winner for Talleres and Newell’s finished with nine after substitute Ribair Rodríguez ended a disastrous debut with an early bath.

Meanwhile in Mendoza, Rosario Central managed to claim a point from their visit to Godoy Cruz.

Jeremías Ledesma clawed away a couple of close chances to ensure Central’s clean sheet remained intact and with the game ending goalless both sides were left frustrated.
